EAA — in force since 28 June 2025

Is your website legally accessible?

European Accessibility Act (Directive (EU) 2019/882) makes WCAG 2.1 AA compliance mandatory for most websites operating in the EU. Penalties vary by member state — up to €100,000 in Germany, €5,000–40,000 in Italy; micro-enterprises (fewer than 10 employees and under €2m turnover) are exempt. Find out in 20 seconds.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Who's in scope of the EAA?
Most businesses offering products/services to EU consumers — e-commerce, banking, SaaS, transport, media. Even without an EU presence, if you sell to EU customers you're in scope. Micro-enterprises are exempt.
Is an overlay enough?
No — it's actually a risk. An overlay doesn't fix the underlying code; lawsuits have been filed despite an overlay being present. The real fix is a code-level audit and remediation.
How long does the scan take?
About 20 seconds — instant. The free scan doesn't require a card.
Does it guarantee full compliance?
No — we're upfront about it: the automated scan detects the most common WCAG issues at the code level. Color contrast, keyboard use, and dynamic behavior also need a manual/in-depth audit. Don't trust anyone promising "compliance with one click".
